Bible Card Sunday - Juan Pierre

Juan signed this card for me from Spring Training in 2011.

He added Matt 6:23
"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

WTAG from GCRL

Thats Walden, Trout, Anderson, Glaus cards from Garvey, Cey, Russel, Lopes.
Got a bunch of Angels cards from GCRL in exchange for a bunch of Dodger cards.  Can't remember what exactly I sent him, but here's some of what he sent me.

Whatever I did send GCRL I don't think I was expecting a mini relic in return.

I really like the black border on this one.  The mini really pops out.
Also included was a standard mini Jered Weaver.

Another card from the 2012 Ginter set is this of Mike Trout.  This, along with another A&G sent may be the last two cards I needed for the team set.  I'll have to check teamsets4u on that.

Nice classic 1996 Mothers portrait of Garret Anderson.
This card was part of a huge stack of Garret Anderson cards.
GCRL must have collected him at one time.

This is just a small sampling of the Anderson cards.

Another new card to me is this 1998 Topps rookie card of Troy Glaus.

Again, it was atop a small stack of Troy Glaus cards.

I have lots of sorting to do to get these into my binders.
Thanks GCRL.

Big A Shuttle Flyover

The Space Shuttle Endeavor was making it's rounds over Southern California recently on its way to be displayed in L.A.  After landing at LAX it will be towed 12 miles to a museum.

My brother sent me this awesome shot of it over the Big A in Anaheim, close to where I grew up.

Half A Team Set of '95 Flair From Listia

Recently won a nice unopposed auction for a lot of 1995 Flair Angels cards.  I only had one of these cards in my Angels collection (Jim Edmonds from Series 2) so I was able to knock off about half the team set with this win.  Most of these are from Series 1.

Angels cards remaining that I need from the Series 1 and Series 2 sets:
22 J.T. Snow
233 Garret Anderson
236 Mark Langston
237 Troy Percival
238 Tony Phillips
239 Lee Smith

Bible Card Sunday - Ray Burris

Ray Burris played Major League ball for 15 years with the Cubs, Yankees, Mets, Expos, A's, Brewers, and Cardinals.  He led the National League in surrendering home runs in 1977 with 29.
He was also frequently used a pinch runner.
Mike Schmidt hit only .200 off him, striking out 24 times in 75 at-bats.

Ray added the whole chapter 40 from Isaiah talking about God comforting his people.

Born: April 23, 1945 in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico

Relieving the previous Angel debut of Dick Egan, he entered the game in the sixth after Egan's 2.1 innings of relief for starter Fred Newman, and promptly hit Tommy Agee with a pitch (in retaliation for his HR off of Newman?), then gave up a run on a groundout, coaxed a flyout and then a strikeout.  He then got three outs in the seventh and was done for the night, in an eventual 8-6 loss to the White Sox on Thursday, April 21, 1966 (N) at Anaheim Stadium.

Trum-Bomb #31

Mark Trumbo smacked a 3-run Jimmie-Jack in the second inning off of Kansas City starter Will Smith, giving the Angels the lead that would hold up for a 4-3 win.
Trumbo hadn't homered in 18 games.

Bible Card Sunday - Doug Waechter

Doug Waechter pitched for 6 years in the majors mostly with Tampa Bay.
His best performance was a 2-hit complete game shutout, which occurred in only his second major league game.  He also threw a no-hitter in the minor leagues.
He is also the only player in Major League history with a last name that starts with "Wae".

Doug added Colossians 3:23
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,"

Set Filler - ARPSmiths

What started out as a trade for this card:

Turned into a set and team set want list filling.
The 2008 Upper Deck Spectrum Vladdy Swatch numbered 14/15 is a beautiful card.
When I offered ARPSmiths a 2008 UD Baseball Heroes Barry Zito Jersey, Green #08/25
I didn't really think he'd have a comparable Angels card, but boy did he!

He then went on to pull and send a bunch of cards I needed for my sets.

I'm slowly accumulating the Angels from this years Panini Triple Play.
This Jered Weaver card is awesome.

Adam knocked off 14 cards from the 2008 UD Timeline want list.
Getting oh so closer to completing this one.

Got 2 more 2011 Ginters for the Angels team set.

This refractorness didn't scan so well but it's a Mark Trumbo Chrome Refractor.

There we a couple 1983 Topps Angels cards in there that I needed.

Four more 2004 Upper Deck Diamond Pro-Sigs.

Two 2011 Topps Finest Angels cards.

And two 2011 Topps Gold cards of Howie Kendrick.

Along with those shown were a handful of other recent Angels cards needed to fill the binder pages of my team albums.

All good stuff for this Angels collector.

November, 1965: Purchased by the California Angels from the Cincinnati Reds.

ANGELS DEBUT:
Entered the game in the third inning as a reliever for starter Fred Newman who just had a meltdown allowing 4 runs.  With a runner on and two out, he got Tom McCraw to ground out.  Egan then was the first batter in the bottom of the third and popped foul to the catcher.  He ended the day going 2.1 innings, giving up 1 run (a solo shot from Tommy Agee) on 3 hits with 2 strikeouts in an eventual 8-6 loss to the Chicago White Sox
