Refractors From Brads Blog

These came from Brad's Blog along with a bunch of other nice Angels cards, but I'm so mesmerized by the technicolor refractorization that I can only show these.  Plain cardboard would bring them down.

Gold Refractor #04/50
Potentially the scarcest card in my collection.

Blue Refractor #148/199

Atomic Refractors #062/225 and #206/225

Purple Refractor #443/499

Good Stuff.

Cards From Johngy, Master Set Completer

Made a trade a while ago with Johngy and I was very pleased with what he sent in return.  Obviously he checked out my wantlists because what he sent over completed 5, and very closely 6, team sets for me.
What a great feeling finishing off a team set.

The cards shown only represent the set he contributed to.  Typically there were up to 5 or 6 cards from each set I needed.

1982 Topps Traded
(I only need the Reggie Jackson to complete)

1983 Topps - done

1983 Topps Traded - done

1988 Fleer - done

1992 Score - done

1992 Topps - done

1992 Fleer - done
(I love this set and might consider collecting the whole thing)

1962 Leon Wagner
(Still need 6 more cards)

Nice assortment of Tim Salmon I needed.

Salmonized

Big-time Salmon collector Andrew sent me a large chunk of 65 Tim Salmon cards off my massive Tim Salmon want list.  A very large chunk indeed.  I determined that he must have a massive collection because he had at least 65 DUPLICATES to send me!

Andrew is looking for Tim Salmon collectors to trade with since he's focusing primarily on Salmon and not much of anything else right now.  So if you want to trade Salmon, drop me an email and I'll get you in touch with Andrew.

Here's what I received:

Eleven scrolls for MY index finger to get through all those cards.
If you were card counting you found that I was two cards short.
That's because I forgot to scan the last page and was too lazy to go back and do it.

That's 65 cards less I have to gather now, but I still have a long way to go on my Salmon collection.

Nice Follow-Through From 1996 Topps

Brought to you by JT Snow, Chili Davis, Jim Edmonds, and Garret Anderson.

Coincidence?
I think not.

Stickers Count Too

Stickers count in my Angels collection.  Some team collectors only collect the cards, but I do it all.  Anything (just about) with an Angels logo on it.

I saw these Angels stickers on Listia and I wanted them.
The lot also came with a Dodgers sheet that I sent to Nomo.

1996 MLB Pro Stamps Angels sheet.

I know my Angels so without looking at the names that's Gary DiSarcina, Tim Salmon,
JT Snow, Garret Anderson, and Charles Chili Davis.
There's a sweet team logo sticker too.

Sweet, a new Salmon to check off.

What's the back look like?

DiSar, Salmon, Snow, Brian An....

Wait, wha??

Turn the sheet back over...

I'm seeing Garret but I'm reading Brian.  Brian is a pitcher, Garret is a hitter.
ERROR!

A quick ebay search doesn't mention an error version, but does show the same Garret Anderson photo misidentified  as Brian Anderson on the 1996 Chris Martin Pro Magnets Garret Anderson #053.

Bad research really chaps my hide.

Bible Card Sunday - Reggie Willits

Got this card signed TTM from the Angels Spring Training in 2006.
Reggie added the popular John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Sports Card Shopping At The Sports Card Shop

Spent about 3 hours at my local card shop the other day.  It really is therapy for me to spend time thumbing through boxes of miscellaneous cards.  These are the boxes of cards that the dealers dont have out but keep underneath their tables.  Stuff they haven't even really gone through yet.  It works well for me to get lost for a few hours in them, forget about my troubles.

I came across a batch of Topps All-Star cards.

The cards in the second batch are actually normal sized cards but when I cropped the picture it shrunk them.
I pick these up whenever I come across them, slowly building up the sets.

I also came across two old 1993 Sports Cards magazines with the card sheets still intact.

SCORE!
This sheet has a Jim Abbott I didn't already have.  The sheet was miscut on the left side, good thing Abbott was in the middle.

TRIPLE SCORE!
Tim Salmon rookie, a JT Snow, and a John Olerud.  Add to that a nice Mike Piazza and this is a really sweet sheet. (say that 5 times fast).

Rarely do I ever cut full sheets apart.

In one of the magazines was this advertisement for 1993 Studio cards.  I cut it out and put it in my Angels binder because if you look closely you can see JT Snows card there on the right.  I don't have this card either, so I'll have to look around for it now.

There was 1989 Upper Deck autographed by Randy Velarde in a box of other junk.
I think this is legit, but it may be an older autograph as compared to those found on sportscollectors.  It appears he changed his signature a bit when he started adding a cross inside the V in Velarde.
There were a handful of autographs like this one on ebay.
Randy played for the Angels from 1996 - 1999.

This 2007 Topps Vladdy All-Star insert card caught my eye.
I really dig the design and the colors.

Found a Jim Abbott I didn't have yet.

Grabbed this slightly mangled 1971 Al Hrabosky rookie.
Hopefully he's still a good TTM signer and I'll get this in the mail to him.
Check Bill Stinsons pink airbrushed cap.
I'm sure he was really pleased about that.

I wasn't sure if I had this card already.  I did.
I'm usually pretty good at knowing what I already have.  Of the 35 or so cards I bought about 8 turned out to be dupes.  Not bad for a stack of cheap cards.

I passed this one up the first time thinking it wasn't a real card but something told me to go back. It was then I realized it was indeed a real card.
It's an Upper Deck Collectors Choice Draw Your Own Card drawn by Zachary Johnson of Madison, WI.
Nice work on Troy Glaus Zack!

Not sure why I grabbed this 1977 Topps Cloth Sticker of John Montefusco.
Maybe because I dont have any 1977 Topps Cloth Stickers.
This will probably be available for trade.

This one I need help with.
Can anyone ID this card for me?
The front is a 1986 Donruss Rated Rookie of Michael Jordan, but the back is Jordan in a Bulls uniform.
You can see there's no date or manufacturer on it.
Apparently it's a 1991 Fun City card?
What's that?

Mail Returns Through The Mail

All sent to the Angels Spring training site in Tempe, Arizona in early March.
Tommy Field was claimed off waivers from the Twins last year.
He'll compete with Andrew Romine for the backup infielder spot, vacated by Maicer Izturis when he signed with the Blue Jays.

Taylor Lindsey is a non-roster invitee second baseman.
He's appeared in 17 games for the Angels over the last 2 seasons.

Ryan Madson is potentially the Angels new closer.

Daniel Tillman is a pitcher in the Angels minor league system.
