Kyle Kubitza TTM

Kyle Kubitza signed this card from Spring Training in 17 days.
I only sent a handful out to ST this year and this is my first one back.
I had typically mailed to about 15-20 players at ST each year, just wasn't feeling it this year.

Kubitza is third on the depth chart for 3rd base behind David Freese and Josh Rutledge.
He hasn't made his Major League debut yet, so hopefully that will happen soon.

TTM Return From Johnny Rembert

Linebacker Johhny Rembert spent his entire 10-year career with the Patriots (1983-1992).
He was a 2-time Pro Bowler.

Rembert signed these cards in 10 days from his home in Orange Park, Florida.
He answered a few questions as well.

Done Reading, Done Reading, Now Reading

In my last Done Reading, Now Reading post I was part way through this book:

which I have since finished and enjoyed.
The book provided a good overview of post WWII through Cold War politics through the lives and experiences of these two contrasting men.
Quite an uncertain and scary time in our nations history, being close to the verge of nuclear war.

Following the US Military History theme, I moved on to this book, another Half Price Books Clearance section rescue:

Those blasted English, how dare they!  It's hard to image a foreign nation coming into ours and having the nerve to burn our capital.  Well, it was pretty easy since our troops had abandoned Washington the day before.  I never really paid much attention to the War of 1812, but I found this book a fascinating read.

A 1991 Upper Deck Ron Hassey was my bookmark.
Ron is protecting the plate much unlike our soldiers were protecting the Capitol.

Like I said I've been on a military history kick lately, I'm sure I'll get back to baseball books again soon.  But for now I'm reading an awesome book about the Confederate raider CSS Shenandoah which preyed on New England whalers long after the South had surrendered.
I dig sailing ships so this book is right up my alley.

Bookmark is a 1990 Upper Deck Robby Thompson.
Robby is picking off Northern baserunners.

Good reading.

Al Rosen Versus The Angels

Al Rosen never played against the Angels.
Rosen played from 1947-1956  and the Angels did not come into existence until 1961.
Had Rosen played against the Halos however, I'm sure he would have dominated them.
Against the 7 teams he faced in his career, his lowest average was .274 (Detroit) and against each team he had at least 500 at-bats.

Mr Rosen signed this card sent to his home address in 2006.

Checkin It Off - 1983 Fleer Checklists

Fourteen-card checklist series for the 1983 Fleer Baseball set.
I've always liked how Fleer grouped cards by teams and featured one team per checklist side.
The red marked cards are from the original set I tried to put together back in the 80's.
I replaced those cards in the Master set.

Too bad for me that the Angels didn't make it on the glamorous front side of the card.

Thanks again to Dion for not only helping me finish the 1983 Fleer Master set but also this additional checklist set.

And does anyone know how to make a cropped 9-pocket scan the same size as a non-cropped 9-pocket scan.  The mismatch in card size above really bugs me.

Minnie Minoso Versus The Angels

Minnie Minoso passed away on March 1st at the age of 89.

He played his first game in 1949, his last game in 1980 (his "real" last game was in 1964).
He had a .298 career batting average.  Pretty good.
In fact, five times he batted over .300, three times was the AL leader in triples and stolen bases, and led the American League in hits, in 1960.

In 102 at bats against Angels pitching however, Minoso didn't fare too well hitting only .176 with 1 stolen base.

Curious to wonder why he didn't do well against the Halos.

John Buck

John Buck played in 5 games for the Halos in 2014 after being released by the Mariners in July and before being granted free agency in October.
He's now with the Braves.

I obtained this card for the All Time Angels set through a one-sided trade on sportscollectors.net.
One sided as in this: I didn't have an extra card the sender initially had inquired of but he decided to send me the Buck card anyhow.
Very generous say I.

Alex Johnson

Former Angel Alex Johnson has passed away at age 72.

Johnson played for the Angels in 1970-1971 and batted .329 for the Angels in 1970 to win the American League Batting Title.  He finished with an average .0003 higher than Carl Yastrzemski.
Johnson remains the only Angels player to win a batting title.

Buzzing About These Card Buzz Cards

Card Buzz Trade Post

My kind of trade package where every card is a card off my needs list.

Six Salmons swimming swiftly into my Salmon binder.
Six more to cross off the massive Tim Salmon list.
I imagine the clear acetate cards came in those high-dollar packs of cards I could never afford.

Greg Myers completes my 1993 Leaf Angels Team Set.
Great to put that one to bed.
However, I'm a long way from finishing the 1993 Score team set, but the Sojo card puts me one closer.

Nice chunk of 1989 Fleer 4-Team Logo Stickers.
This lot leaves me with only one card (Braves/Cubs/Royals/Brewers) to complete the 1989 set.

Big thanks for these cards Laurens, and for taking the time and effort to search my Needs List.
