November 29, 1965: Drafted by the California Angels from the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1965 rule 5 draft.
May 5, 1966: Returned (earlier draft pick) by the California Angels to the St. Louis Cardinals.
ANGELS DEBUT:
In a 2-2 tie in the top of the 14th inning, Montanez entered the game as a pinch runner for Norm Seibern who had just walked, promptly stole second off Dennis Higgins/JC Martin, but then was stranded at second. In the bottom of the inning, now playing first base, he had no chances as the White Sox scored a run to win the game on Tuesday, April 12, 1966 (D) at Comiskey Park I.
ANGELS RECORD:
In 2 plate appearances over 8 games he struck out twice, but scored 2 runs and had a stolen base as a pinch runner. I noticed that retrosheet does not credit him with an inning of play for his debut game. Is that due to the fact he had no chances?
