These all came recently in a PWE from GCRL.
Six of seven new #444 baseball cards to add to the collection!
(The seventh is unique in it's own special way, and will have it's own post.)

2004 Topps
Didn't realize Jose Guillen in an Angels uniform was a card #444.
And I have many copies of this card in my Angels dupes box.
I especially appreciate Jim pulling this, even though he might have scratched his head figuring that I already had one, being an Angels collector.
Guillen only played one season with the Halos. He didn't play nice with the others so they traded him to the Nationals for Maicer Izturis and Juan Rivera.
2001 Topps
Escobar would later play for the Angels from 2004-2007, and again in 2009 (he missed 2008 due to shoulder surgery). He went 18-7 in 2007. I really like the font, location and design of the 444 on this card back.
1997 Topps
One of my top ten favorite Topps designs, especially in green.
And Cliff's photo on the front is a really nice shot. Another plus is a small player photo on the back, as long as it's not the SAME PHOTO THAT WAS ON THE FRONT. That would just be stupid.
1998 Topps
Another beautiful photo on front, but when you turn the card over to find the number it's a little hard to find. And if you were thumbing through a stack of these in your hand, the number would be upside down.
1992 Pinnacle
Jay Howell takes the number in this set that I never really cared for. Just too much black for me.
The 444 is really easy to see though.
1995 Topps
Whoa, there's a lot going on with this card back. I have to sort through the name and vital information, statistics block, portrait and action photos, and MLB and MLBPA logos before I spotted the 444 in the lower right corner.
That Al Leiter is a great looking card. Features a sweet shadow shot... and it's just begging to be signed right above his name.
ReplyDeleteTempting, if only he ever played for the Angels.
DeleteGlad they arrived safely! And yes, I was surprised to see the Guillen on your want list. Also happy to be ablentontrade one of the many Jay howell cards in my dupes box
ReplyDeleteGotta love the old dupes boxes.
Delete1995 Topps had such a nice and simple design. I also like the 1998 design, but that hidden number on the back would drive me nuts.
ReplyDeleteYou'd think card companies realize how much collectors rely on that number right?
