Before 1965 Season: Signed as a Free Agent with the California Angels.

ANGELS DEBUT:
Started the game in left field but had no chances. As the second batter in the bottom of the first Smith hit a single off of Gary Peters advancing Jose Cardinal to second (Peters was replaced in the first after allowing 5 runs without getting an out). Smith ended the day 2 for 4 with a run scored in a 6-3 win over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday, May 22, 1965 (N) at Chavez Ravine.

ANGELS RECORD:
Played in 23 games for the Angels and hit .228, and made 45 putouts in 45 chances in the outfield.

Best Angels Performance:
Went 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI in a 7-3 loss to the Washington Senators on Tuesday, May 25, 1965 (N) at DC Stadium.

- Also played for the Cardinals (57-59, 62); Phillies (60-61); Mets (62); Cubs (62).
- Was selected by the Mets in the 1961 Expansion Draft.

- Homered in his first major league game, with the Cardinals in 1957.
- Described by ex-teammate Bill White as "the ultimate six o'clock hitter," meaning he would homer in batting practice, but rarely in a game.
