December 3, 1964: Traded by the Philadelphia Phillies with Costen Shockley to the California Angels for Bo Belinsky.
June 15, 1974: Purchased by the New York Yankees from the California Angels.

As the starting pitcher he struck out the first batter he faced, George Smith. May went a solid nine innings giving up 1 run on 1 hit and striking out 10, but left with the game tied. The Angels ended up losing the game in the top of the 13th when the Tigers scored 3 runs and the Angels failed to score in the bottom of the inning on Sunday, April 18, 1965 (D) at Chavez Ravine.
