Al Kaline

Al Kaline's career spanned 1953-1974, an amazing 22 years.
Thirteen of those years he played against the Angels, 1961-1974.
He hit them in Wrigley Field (LA), Chavez Ravine, and Anaheim Stadium.

How did this Hall of Famer fare against the Halos?
In 175 games: .274 BA, 30 HR, 94 RBI, .849 OPS.

Against Dean Chance (Angels/Twins): 105 AB, 16 SO, .284 BA

So, yeah, he was good against the Angels.

  1. I hit my first little league home run with an Al Kaline bat, my boyhood hero.

  2. Your tribute inspired me to see how well he fared against the Athletics (since I was barely 2 years old when he played his final game) and it looks like he enjoyed hitting against A's pitchers (.309 batting average, 56 home runs, and a .514 slugging percentage). Although he did struggle at the Oakland Coliseum during the tail end of his career (.243 batting average and .357 slugging percentage).

Btw... cool autograph. One thing I noticed while writing my post is that Kaline's signature has stayed pretty consistent over the past 4 decades.

    1. I would have been 10 when he retired. I don't know for sure, but there's a good chance I saw him play at the Big A.
