Cards In The Basement

TCDB #114 CardsInTheBasement

1984 Fleer Update
A couple of these photos are taken at Palm Springs where the Angels held Spring Training until the early '90s.

1987 Classic Update Yellow - Green Backs
1988 Classic Red

1990 Score 100 Superstars

These four were all throw-ins, not part of trade, but much appreciated and all needed.

The Replacements

Not the punk/alternative band or the Keanu Reeves movie, but instead the cards that replace (temporarily I hope) the original trade cards that seem to be lost in the mail. Bo had sent out a group of envelopes that seem to have gone missing, so as a test he sent me a replacement envelope from a PO in the next town. These only took 4 days to get here.

Thanks Bo, I hope the originals still show up!

The Cosmic Express

Recently watched "Facing Nolan" on Netflix. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.

TCDB #113 bcmeeker

1988 Topps Major League Leaders Minis #50
Too bad Topps chopped Ryan all to hell on this card.
And sorry about the cat hair.

Eighteen more 1992 Impel DC Cosmic.
I know what I was thinking when I decided to pursue this, but I'm having second thoughts.
Still need 46 cards.

Junk Mall Junk Wax Wednesday

Ripping a random pack of junk wax from the local junk mall.

Only these aren't from the local junk mall but from an SCF trade a while back with POISON75.

1993 Pro Line Live Draft - QVC
Unopened pack of 10 cards distributed through QVC.

Some people might be upset that I opened the sealed pack, but there's Patriots in there I need, and I don't need the rest.

I guess these were speculating the teams that would draft these 4 players and leans heavily towards the Patriots with 4 cards marked as such because the Pats had the first overall pick. In the end we all know that the Patriots went with Bledsoe as the first pick.

All the backs are the same.

Two Wrongs Make Two Rights

Always a good idea to correct an oversight in a trade, and these two traders did just that. In both instances the wrong card was sent, and the correct card mailed shortly after. And in both cases the sender let me keep the mistake card. I've had to do that before, and it's just good practice. We all make mistakes.

TCDB #111 Mokolai

That was simple enough.
The Donruss is a replacement for the wrong card that was sent in a previous trade.
And I see a #444 card I need on that Donruss checklist.

TCDB #112 bozo72

The 1994 Collectors Choice Tim Salmon was accidently sent instead of the Silver Signature version, but Randy fixed the issue and sent it in a separate envelope. He even let me keep the base card.

Three more for the 1992 Upper Deck Minors set leaving me with 25 to go.

A Johnny Box - Winnings and Then Some

I received a small flat rate box from Johnny's Trading Spot that included some prize winnings along with a bunch of other stuff.

First off the prize winnings. John always has some really nice stuff to send and this was no exception.
The Iglesias is a 2022 Topps - First Edition Red Foil 16/50

Tons of checklist cards were included, 62 to be exact. Hopefully these will fill a lot of gaps in my checklist sets. I think those 1994 Select might even be a complete set.

And then John found a way to get rid of a lot of his oversized cards...send them to me!

1985 Donruss Action All-Stars

1983 Donruss Action All-Stars

1984 Donruss Action All-Stars

Forty-five of the 60-card set, including this cool checklist, but I don't think I'll be collecting the set right now.

1984 Topps Super

1985 Topps Box Bottom
Really cool, although no Patriots made it on to any of the box bottoms in 1985.

Now, what to do with all these oversized cards when I don't have anywhere to store them!

It's Been Such A Long Time

Lyrics from my favorite Boston song, a song that takes me right back to elementary school. But this post is about waiting a long time for a TTM autograph request to come back.

I'm pretty much through with sending out TTM autograph requests, the fire has gone out. In fact I've been tapering off the last several years:

2018 - 23
2019 - 0
2020 - 15 (a fake resurgence)
2021 - 1
2022 - 2
2023 - 0

Of those 41 I've sent since 2018, I'm still waiting on 14, and 9 of those were sent to Spring Training, so I'm pretty confident those aren't coming back.

Yesterday however I received back the very last TTM I sent out.

Pete Brock signed these cards in 455 days (mailed 4/20/2022) from the New England Alumni Club address.

I might consider sending this to Stan Brock for an autograph, but I let my subscription to SCN expire so I don't know if Stan signs through the mail. But wait, Stan never played for the Patriots, so never mind!

Junk Mall Junk Wax Wednesday

Ripping a random pack of junk wax from the local junk mall.

1992 Courtside Draft Pix
Pack of 10 with a chance to pull a gold/silver/bronze foil parallel, All America, Award Winners, Winner card, or an autographed card.

Had a bit of bricking in this pack.
Didn't pull any hits.

Typical back.

Leading Off With Wally Joyner

TCDB #109 CraigM

I think the early Classic cards don't get enough credit. To me they're a peer to the Topps/Donruss/Fleer of the same period.

Again, not really a fan of "portrait" cards but in this case the Ryan card is a good one.

A lot of folks probably thought that Studio logo card was a waste of space, but I love it!

TCDB #110 andersonadams1

Wow, does anyone kick like that anymore?

Speaking of guys with high leg kicks.

That's the corrected Gary Sheffield. I have the error card, and I remember when it was a hot commodity back in the early 90's.

Some of the more colorful checklists I've seen. And that's Chipper Jones for you Chipper Jones collectors. And should I include that Triple Play checklist with my Angels team set?

Harry Colon. Always funny.

Another Care Package, This From POISON75

I received a very nice package of cards recently from POISON75. Every couple months it seems Stuart sends me some great cards, and then he emails me his updated wantlists. I was able to return a few of his wants this time, but his wants don't seem to align much with what's in my inventory, especially since I don't buy much anymore, but I do keep referencing his lists keeping an eye out for him.

I'm sure Stuart would be happy to send anyone else his wantlists, and I'm sure he would send you  something in return. Let's get him some cards he needs.

Still looking for the elusive "green bat" variation where the top of his bat is tinted a light green.

Always late to the party, at first I thought these were a 90's unlicensed product!
Nice group of color variations and the dark blue is the "The Ryan Express" variation.

I missed seeing Trout in the All-Star game this year.

Beautiful 2022 Topps - 1987 Topps Baseball 35th Anniversary Chrome, and I'm really pleased with how the 2023 Topps - 1988 Topps Baseball 35th Anniversary All-Stars came out.

2021 Topps - Advanced Stat 134/300
2021 Topps -70th Anniversary Platinum 40/70

1994 Sportflics 2000 Rookie & Traded

2023 Topps - Father's Day Commemorative Team Patch
Wow!

1995 Semic Globe VM (Swedish)
My first Swedish card!

Much thanks Stuart, some really great cards there. Always on the lookout for you.
