Todays Mail: Doug Gwosdz

Doug "Eyechart" Gwosdz signed and returned his 1982 Topps #731 rookie card, and a 1984 Topps #753 in 21 days. I asked him about his nickname but he didn't really elaborate on how he felt about it.

Doug was a catcher for the Padres from 1981-84 and in 162 career games never played against the Angels.

The guy on Doug's right is Fred Kuhaulua who appeared in 3 games for the Angels in 1977. His autograph is a tough one to get, and one that I lack for my Angels collection.

    Very cool. Gwosdz has a spectacular defensive record that keeps his legend alive. I guess Cannizzarro gave him the nickname in 1979 when both were in the cal league (A).
