Padrographs Passes It On

Living every collector's dream, Rod ripped a ton of stuff over the Christmas break (like 20 blasters or something crazy like that) and was nice enough to send me the Angels he didn't need (probably all of them!). Enough leftovers to fill a box.

He even included four unopened packs of cards for me to rip myself. More on those in a future post.

Rather than scanning and showing every card (which I started to do but got overwhelmed) I'll just pick out some of the highlights.

This design still makes my head spin, but I have never, in my life, found a pack of these out in the wild, so I'm glad to have them.

Some samples of some of the shinier stuff included in the box.

Always fun to get a prospect autograph, with the hopes that he'll make it in the Big League someday.

Rod had to Bip me with a dozen or so Victor Mederos rookies.
I always get a kick out being Bipped.

About a week after the box came, Rod hit me with a PWE containing three more Angels cards, including another prospect autograph, and two of my favorite current Angels.

I'm very thankful that I seem to be Rod's Angels go-to guy.

They Accumulate Like Snow, or Not

Just when I think things have slowed down on TCDB, trades seem to accumulate like snow, in the Northeast at least. Around here if we get a snow, it typically doesn't accumulate or is gone by the next day.

Here are the latest TCDB and other trades that have come in recently.

TCDB trade with TimR

Interesting that the Gold Medallion edition of the Joyner card is a completely different photo. I don't know the exact issue that Ultra changed from just adding the Gold Medallion logo to the base card.
Happy to fill in Angels and PC guys whenever I can but I think that this year on TCDB I'd like to concentrate more on knocking out the odd subsets I like to collect, like those below.

1998 Pinnacle Performers - Swing for the Fences Players/Points
Fifty cards in the Player set (I only have 16), and fifty in the Points set (I have 14).

1999 Upper Deck - MLB 2000 Contest Game Pieces
Even though you only need to spell out "MLB 2000" with the seven cards, there are 33 cards in the set, each one having a different Game Tip (that tiny font on the bottom). I have 12 of the 33.
There are silver (PR200) and gold (PR10) versions of the "2" card which are scarce, meaning another set I may never complete.

The two Pacific Legends are the misspelling errors. I just need the Don Larson error and the checklist variation for Set I. I need six cards for Set II.
The last two Glow Stars I needed to complete the 1993 Fun Pack set.
The Company Store is a white-back variation and the last I needed to complete both the gray and white-back 1990 sets.

I love Fleer Stickers.
I'm now down to needing just one Blue Jays variation to complete the 1983 set.

Some Angels and miscellaneous needs.
The Fleer stickers and gold parallels were a throw-in, thank-you-very-much.

My 2008 Timeline set build hasn't been much of a focus lately, but I'm glad to get a little chunk of them added. This might be the year to focus more on that set, I'm down to needing 80 cards, mostly high numbers of course, of the 385-card set.

Shane is in the Armed Forces Europe, and I've traded with him before for Bear Fruit Snacks Animal cards. He had a lot of Angels needs for me also.
And he threw in some extra football cards as well.

TCDB trade with Yardbird38

Richard had a bunch of odd-set needs I wanted, and of course I found some Angels there as well.

TCDB trade with alanskontra

The 1981 Topps Coke header card was the draw for this trade.
The Joyner and Cimber are two extras Alan threw in.

TCDB trade with billwill305

The goal of this trade was to get caught up with Angels in 2025 Update.

Trade with Diamond Jesters

I picked up this 1966 Topps I needed for the Angels team set from Matts Time Travel Trading series.

Freebies from The Diamond King

This PWE of "Thanks for Reading" cards kept getting RTS back to Kevin.
Glad it finally made it here.

Not My Kind of Pack

A second trip to Target shortly after the trip when I bought the Archives I posted about, found me in the card aisle where all they now had left was a single pack of Stadium Club. I bought it of course because I love to inflict pain upon myself. Let's see how frustrating this will be.

Not a bad start, but I am always hoping to pull an Angels card. I do like Joey Votto but it's not a card I'll keep.

Three Marlins in a row. It's going downhill fast.

Followed by three Cardinals in a row. Nice collation Topps. Keep an eye on the Goldschmidt.

ANOTHER Goldschmidt, chrome version. The Paige red parallel is kinda cool.

Then this pack went straight to hell.

Of all the teams, of all the players on those teams, these three.

Autos For A Cause

I was collecting TTM autographs for 1991 Topps Archives 1953 Topps for a while a long time ago but recently saw the opportunity on SCN to potentially add to it through a $20 donation to a youth softball team. I was to get random signed cards from the set based on my donation amount, knowing that I probably already had most of what I would be getting in return...it is a donation after all, and nothing was really expected in return anyhow.

For every $10 I got six signed cards.

Mickey Vernon is an upgrade from a black sharpie autograph I already had.
Jimmy Piersall is a new one for me. Also happy to have it since he's a former Angel.
The rest I already have.

Paul Minner is one that's new to me.
Grady Hatton is an upgrade from the thick black sharpie one I had.
The rest are dupes.

I now have 91 of the cards autographed.

Very pleased with what I got for my donation, and I hope the softball team does well this year.

A Pack of Archives

I do believe that this might be the first pack of Topps Archives that I have ever bought. I don't buy a ton of cards as it is, and I usually go for the more bang for the buck packs. But I was in Target, I wanted to rip something, and it was between Archives, Stadium Club and Ginter. Ginter is definitely not my thing, and I'm not too impressed with Stadium Club, so Archives it was.

...and 1994 Topps is one of my least favorite designs.

Well, at least I got to rip something.
