TCDB Milestone - 100 Trades Received

The first envelope of cards I received in the mail trough a TCDB trade was on February 13th this year, from Bo Rosny (and he was almost (#98) my 100th). A little over four months and I've just received my 100th trade.

Now technically this 100th isn't my 100th "completed" transaction according to TCDB, it is however my 100th received in the mail, because, when I get an envelope in the mail, I immediately number it and blog about it. I don't wait for the other partner to get theirs and close out the deal.

TCDB #100 cards520

This is my second trade with John.

Nothing too fancy, but some good stuff I needed.

I am a checklist collector, and recently I've been adding my checklist needs in the database.

1987 Donruss - Factory Set Version
You can tell it's the factory set because when you flip the card over from your left hand to your right, the back is upside down.
Cool huh?

To show John my appreciation, I sent him a couple cards off his wantlist.

TCDB Transactions #97 jarchiable, #98 borosny, and #99 nkandy11

Knocking on the door of 100 trades through TCDB.

TCDB #97 jarchiable

1993 Donruss - Spirit of the Game
I had never seen this card before, so cool front and back.
Safe, by the way.

The photo of Boggs reminded me of a blogger who used to collect cards showing commemorative uniform patches like the JRY on his sleeve. Who was that?

TCDB #98 borosny

Fourth trade with Bo, I was hoping he'd be the 100th, so close!
Twenty-two more Fleer stickers for the massive set with variations.

2011 Allen & Ginter Promo - Clock Variation.
There are ten different times on the clock in the mirror. You have to hold it up to an actual mirror to see the correct time (my head couldn't compute it without it). This one is 1:14. I still need the 1:19, 3:14, 4:00, and 7:27 cards.
TCDB does not have all the variations listed.

TCDB #99 nkandy11

Those two 1998 Panini Revolution are pretty trippy.

Junk Mall Junk Wax Wednesday

Ripping a random pack of junk wax from the local junk mall.

Pack of 17 cards and 1 Magic Motion Trivia Card.
These were the first standard baseball cards packaged in clear semi-cellophane that I recall seeing (Topps rack packs were clear back into the 70's, but I never saw any of those). I remember being both excited (maybe I'll see an Angels card I need) and a little unsure (I shouldn't be able to see what's inside this pack - doesn't seem right).

And I'll admit, when I pulled this pack at the junk mall, it was for the Niekro card I could see on the bottom!
This is my favorite Score design.
I haven't yet gotten to these in my boxes to list on TCDB as traders, but I might just have enough to be close to a set. I ripped a lot of this in '88. If I am close, I think I'll go ahead and try to complete it.

I never really knew what to do with these trivia cards back then, consequently I ended up getting rid of all of them.

The cards actually came packaged separated by color, in the order you see. And of course the set is divided into color sections.
Very cool.

There's that Niekro that was on the bottom, I could see the backside of the card through the wrapper.

This was Phil Niekro's last traditional baseball card.

TCDB Transactions #94 FiresNBeers, #95 Thunderfoot, and #96 Jtennyson99

I'm trying, I really am trying to get my TCDB In Progress trades down to under 5, but I keep getting proposals that I just can't resist, like these few recent returns.

TCDB #94 FiresNBeers

2000 Pacific Paramount
Always liked this design, but the "upside down home plate" under the team logo always messes with my head.

1994 Topps Gold #397 Tim Salmon

1974 Topps #444 for the collection.

Fleury on the Avalanche?
Yep. Fifteen games in the 1998-99 season.

All the above cards were proposed to me for just two 1990 Donruss Robin Yount variations.
Super generous.

And these Abbotts and Salmon were all extra throw-ins.
Super-duper generous.

TCDB #95 Thunderfoot

1992 Stadium Club is the "F" variation.

1992 Classic #95
What a horrible Todd Collins card, totally blurry photo.
What's pathetic is that someone signed off on this, "Yep looks good. Print it!"

TCDB #96 Jtennyson99

1993 Pacific Texas Express - Prisms

Even the backs of these are awesome.

TCDB Transactions #91 borosny, #92 CardFlipper1974, and #93 frankgifford

Closing in on 100 trades already on TCDB. Let's see some recent returns.

TCDB #91 borosny

Third trade in a little over a week, and the fourth on the way I think?

It started when I claimed these dupes Bo offered up in a blog post.

And ended as a TCDB trade which included more 1989 Upper Deck.

TCDB #92 CardFlipper1974

TCDB #93 frankgifford
That's twenty-three 1989 Upper Deck traded for about the same amount of 1988 Pacific Eight Men Out dupes I had.

Including this Jose Canseco Black Eagle Logo variation and
Herm "Wlnningham" error card.

Junk Mall Junk Wax Wednesday

Ripping a random pack of junk wax from the local junk mall.

Pack of 16 cards and a Magic Motion Trivia Card with a chance to pull a Mickey Mantle or a Mickey Mantle Autograph card.

Hey, A Bo Jackson for the PC.

I have nothing else to say about this pack.

TCDB Goodies #87 to #90

Father's Day came and went. I didn't get any baseball cards this year, and that's just fine because I did get some of my favorite snacks: Cheddar Cheese Ruffles, Payday bar, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and an In-n-Out gift card. Not that I needed any gifts at all because just knowing my wife and kids love me is awesome enough.

The previous week's mail brought several TCDB returns.

TCDB #87 tomb

2019 Donruss Optic - Carolina Blue/White #160
2022 Topps Gypsy Queen - Indigo #77, 018/250
2019 Donruss Optic - Rated Prospect #RP-2

TCDB #88 jamestagli
1986 22c Arctic Explorers
I'll always try to show the older stamps that get used because I used up my stamp collection getting TTM autographs the last 30 years. And it was worth it.

2014 Panini Elite Extra Edition - Franchise Futures Signatures 688/699 Jake Jewell

TCDB #89 Night Owl
I had offered up some miscut '85 Donruss here recently and Greg claimed them.
I set up the transaction through TCDB (even though I've sent stuff to Greg in the past), so that I could include a couple other cards he needed, keeping the inventory squared up. No return trade was asked, but Greg was nice enough to send some pretty sweet stuff anyhow.
Just look at that Ohtani 2022 Panini Chronicles - Revolution Groove!

2022 Panini Chronicles - Limited Swatches

That 1992 Mothers Nolan Ryan No-Hitters was the last card I needed for the 8-card set. I also have the uncut sheet that I mailed away for in 1992. Ate a lot of Mother's Cookies back then, chocolate chip mostly.

1992 Confex The Baseball Enquirer
Believe it or not this is the Angels team set for this odd set: Mark Langston and Scott Bailes. I think the Langston artwork looks more like Scott Bailes, and Scott Bailes looks more like Jorge Fabregas (who would have been in the minors at the time, see, he even has his bags packed).

1991 Pro Set #274
I now have 51 different Fleury cards, the #1 spot on TCDB has 611!

I'm still picking up Fleer Logo cards here and there so I'm glad to have these. I've always been aware of the many variations, these blank backs included, but perusing the lists on TCDB it seems there are a myriad more variations I was not aware of.

TCDB #90 edk
1987 22c North American Wildlife
I had the full 50-stamp sheet of these at one point.

1982 when Joe Rudi went from the Red Sox to the A's for his 16th and final season.
