Ripping a random pack of "junk wax" from the local junk mall.

Pack of 4 cards and a checklist card with a chance to pull a Game Jersey, Signature Collection autograph, The Great Career, or a The Rookie Year parallel.

Wrapping Up A Year On TCDB

My first-year trading on TCDB went rather well. I completed 263 trades and brought 3,067 cards into my collection. My first transaction was with Bo Rosny, and it was with Bo that I traded the most (8 times). I traded with 42 different collectors, and every one of those I traded with at least twice.

This post is of my last seven trades in my first TCDB year of trading. I have transactions turned off for now until I get my desk cleared off and organized.

The 2012 Topps Trout is actually a 2017 Rediscover Topps info card and the last one I needed for the 10-card set.

One Page of Jeanette Stocker

This series highlights "one page" at a time from my binder of correspondence and autographs from former players and personnel.

   Jeanette Stocker
Catcher 1946 Kenosha Comets AAGPBL
As will happen from time to time with custom ICs, I messed up her name, but she was gracious enough to sign it anyhow.

Correspondence received in January 2004.

Jeanette passed away on November 15, 2023 at the age of 97.

Junk Mall Junk Wax Wednesday - Special

No junk wax today, although maybe someday these might be considered junk wax by some. Today we have a 2024 Topps Series 1 fat pack.

Pack of 36 cards with lots of inserts and parallels.
$6.99 at Target

First card of the pack.
When I first saw the design, I immediately was reminded of a '90s Starting Lineup issue, but now that I have them in hand, maybe not so much.
I do like the neon-ness of them.

Here's the rest of the pack.
First Angels pull of the year.

I'm glad they chose the blue neon for the Angels; it stands out nicely.

Yeah, it's a good design, I like it.

The "Ken Griffey" font is a little too balloonish and clown-like, but the Stars of the MLB are nicely done.

Overall, I'm pleased.

One Page of Herschel Lyons

This series highlights "one page" at a time from my binder of correspondence and autographs from former players and personnel.

   Herschel Lyons
His MLB career was 1 relief appearance for the 1941 St. Louis Cardinals.
Served in WWII in Italy and Africa.
"Hubbell was before my time and Gibson later after I was gone. I played American Legion & sandlot ball with Bobby Doerr. Casey Stengel was from Glendale, Calif. a suburb of LA. I knew Casey when he was a manager in the "Old Pacific Coast League". It existed out [this way?] before the Majors came West."

I love that he pointed out that he was 88 years old. I'm sure he was proud of his longevity.

Correspondence received in January 2004.

Herschel passed away on April 8, 2008, at the age of 92.

Beefing Up The Angels Collection

Made a big 47-card TCDB trade with freddybacon recently to primarily beef up my Angels collection. Fred has to be the best packager of cards I've come across: each card was in its own penny sleeve, the cards then split between two sealed team bags. This is great because these cards will all go into binders so now I have a new stock of penny sleeves to use.

And a couple of checklists too.

Hall of Famer?

Yes.
If you've read anything serious about him, taken into consideration his situation and the times he was playing in (the power that owners had) and looked at his statistics, then yes, he should be in the Hall of Fame.

No, I'm not a Blue Jays collector now, it's just that I need a lot of Blue Jays for various collections and where better to get them from than a friend in Canada.
