Not My Kind of Pack

A second trip to Target shortly after the trip when I bought the Archives I posted about, found me in the card aisle where all they now had left was a single pack of Stadium Club. I bought it of course because I love to inflict pain upon myself. Let's see how frustrating this will be.

Not a bad start, but I am always hoping to pull an Angels card. I do like Joey Votto but it's not a card I'll keep.

Three Marlins in a row. It's going downhill fast.

Followed by three Cardinals in a row. Nice collation Topps. Keep an eye on the Goldschmidt.

ANOTHER Goldschmidt, chrome version. The Paige red parallel is kinda cool.

Then this pack went straight to hell.

Of all the teams, of all the players on those teams, these three.

Autos For A Cause

I was collecting TTM autographs for 1991 Topps Archives 1953 Topps for a while a long time ago but recently saw the opportunity on SCN to potentially add to it through a $20 donation to a youth softball team. I was to get random signed cards from the set based on my donation amount, knowing that I probably already had most of what I would be getting in return...it is a donation after all, and nothing was really expected in return anyhow.

For every $10 I got six signed cards.

Mickey Vernon is an upgrade from a black sharpie autograph I already had.
Jimmy Piersall is a new one for me. Also happy to have it since he's a former Angel.
The rest I already have.

Paul Minner is one that's new to me.
Grady Hatton is an upgrade from the thick black sharpie one I had.
The rest are dupes.

I now have 91 of the cards autographed.

Very pleased with what I got for my donation, and I hope the softball team does well this year.

A Pack of Archives

I do believe that this might be the first pack of Topps Archives that I have ever bought. I don't buy a ton of cards as it is, and I usually go for the more bang for the buck packs. But I was in Target, I wanted to rip something, and it was between Archives, Stadium Club and Ginter. Ginter is definitely not my thing, and I'm not too impressed with Stadium Club, so Archives it was.

...and 1994 Topps is one of my least favorite designs.

Well, at least I got to rip something.

Junk Mall Junk Wax Wednesday

1991 Topps - Robin Hood Prince of Thieves
Pack of 8 cards and 1 sticker.

One of Morgan Freeman's gazillion movies.

Like most Topps releases in the 90's there are single * and double ** variations for each card.
This pack contained a mix of both single and double.

There are 55 cards in the set, unless you collect both variations.

Card #1, the title card, is a pretty cool design.

My sticker is Christian Slater as Will Scarlett.

The nine sticker-backs form a puzzle of the title card.
That might be a cool little subset to collect, or not.

Angels In The Background #1

I love trying to figure out the Angels in the background of other players cards.

1992 Classic I #T48

FROM THE PHOTO:
1992 card, photo probably from 1991.
Barely make out a T on his back and possibly a number starting with a 2.
Wears a wristband on his left wrist.
Day game vs Yankees at Anaheim Stadium (red-orange outfield seats, round logo on wall).
Pat Kelly at second base.

FACTS:
Ron Tingley was number 24 in 1991-1993.
From Retrosheet we know that the only game both Pat Kelly and Ron Tingley played in together at Anaheim was Sunday July 14, 1991:
In the 7th, with Kelly playing second, Tingley hit a single, followed by Schofield who forced Tingley at second, PHOTO.

Here's another photo of Tingley with the red wristband.

Completed Redemption Card Set

1995 Collectors Choice Update Trade Card Redemptions

Series of five cards numbered TC1-TC5 inserted about 1:11 packs of 1995 Collectors Choice. Cards were redeemable (with $2) for an 11-card pack of specified Update cards. There were 55 cards in the Update set which was only available through these redemption cards.

TC1 Larry Walker for Update Cards 531-541

The backs are all the same except for the card number.

TC2 David Cone for Update Cards 542-552

TC3 Marquis Grissom for Update Cards 553-563

TC4 Terry Pendleton for Update Cards 564-574

TC5 Fernando Valenzuela for Update Cards 575-585

I'm glad that UDCC didn't pick the normal superstars for these inserts: Griffey Jr, Frank Thomas, Ripken, Jeter, Bonds, instead going with some different guys, still stars though, but refreshing.

Trades

TCDB trade with Dports1

I was especially excited to get the 1993 Kahns Tanana.

TCDB trade with Karensjer
(Topps Cards That Never Were)

Jeremy saw that I had recently traded for a Terry Pendleton 1995 Collectors Choice redemption card and offered this Grissom that I needed for the set. I set up a quick TCDB trade and here it is along with two Angels SPs. Jeremy threw in a few checklist cards as well.

TCDB trade with Mike and Dolly

After Jeremy offered the Grissom, I went to TCDB to find the last two cards I needed from the 5-card 1995 Collectors Choice Trade Card Redemptions. Mike and Dolly also had two of the 1992-93 Conlon TSN Color inserts. Getting a bit harder to find trades on the four I still need. And now I'm down to one letter for the DIAMOND COLLECTION redemption cards, a D.

They also had some PC and Angels I wanted. Now I just need the George Brett back on the 1989 Topps Joyner Sticker to have all six variations.

And 1986 Fleer Team Sticker variations for that set.

TCDB trade with cjswinko

The Donruss cards are all the factory set variations (minor design differences) which I am not chasing for all Angels, just those that are PC guys.
