Don't Spell Your Name Maggot, Say It!

I am saying it, Abel Baker Sir!

You guys know about the NATO Phonetic Alphabet right?
Alfa, Bravo, Charlie, Delta....for A, B, C, D....

Well it used to be called the Joint Army/Navy Phonetic Alphabet and went by Able, Baker, Charlie, Dog...

Hence the quip concerning an autographed card of Angels prospect Abel Baker.  Get it?

I won this 2011 Playoff Contenders Certified Autograph on Listia recently.
Baker is a local boy from here in the DFW area, and was drafted by the Angels in the 7th round of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft from Grayson County College (Denison, TX).
Baker is a catcher (hey that makes it Abel Baker Catcher...ABC) moving up the ranks in the Angels minor league system.

The guy I won the Abel Baker card from was nice enough to include several more cards from this set.
I'm assuming these were all in the same pack?
James Harris is numbered 056/299 and Andrew Susac is numbered 273/299

So Panini has the rights to show high school logos but not MLB logos?
What about collegiate logos?
Did they have to pay for the high school rights or is that public domain?
Hmm, interesting.

So this is a card showing Steven Strasburg, as the College Player of the Year.
I'm going to assume that's Strasburgs college uniform and that Panini chose this photo so as to not show any logos.  Maybe that answers my question.

  1. I first ran across an Abel Baker card 2 years ago, and I thought that Panini had forgotten to remove a placeholder name from the card... "That can't be his name, right? Oh, it is? Sorry, dude..."

I really need to pick up an Abel Baker card, just because.
